Fri, October 22: Buddhism, Meditation & Recovery Group Notes

October 23, 2010

How nice to have a group with which to meditate and discuss spiritual and recovery issues.  I am grateful–thank you all for coming!

Group notes:

-I read from Darren Littlejohn’s The 12-Step Buddhist. http://the12stepbuddhist.com/  This is an excellent book not only to learn how to incorporate Buddhism into your recovery but also an excellent commentary on recovery and 12-step groups in general.  Essential reading!

-“The Pebble” meditation came from The Miracle of Mindfulness: An Introduction to the Practice of Meditation by Thich Nhat Hanh.  I have found this little book an excellent way to remind myself of the basics of meditation as well as a useful resource to continue to deepen my meditation practice.  To learn more about Thich Nhat Hanh, visit http://www.plumvillage.org/.  Thich Nhat Hanh is one of the greatest living meditation masters, and has written a score of profound and accessible books on Buddhism and meditation.

-I ended the meeting with a quote by Rumi:

“The body is the instrument to calculate the astronomy of the spirit–

look into that astrolabe and become oceanic.”

Blessings!

All are welcome to the next group–Fridays from 6 to 7.

Feel free to bring your own spiritual/recovery/soulful material to read and share…

(There will be two 10 minute meditation sessions in the meeting–the remainder of the meeting is discussion and sharing.)
