Effective Parenting Group, Thursday Oct. 4th: Motivational Interviewing
October 1, 2012
Hello Friends.
The Effective Parenting Group this Thursday (7-9 p.m.) will focus on Motivational Interviewing. I have covered this topic before, but a refresher is always beneficial, right?
Please let me know if you plan on attending. Fee is $20 per person.
What’s Motivational Interviewing?“Motivational Interviewing is a communication approach that focuses on exploring and resolving ambivalence and centers on motivational processes within the individual that facilitate change. The method differs from more “coercive” or externally driven methods for motivating change as it not impose change (that may be inconsistent with the person’s own values, beliefs or wishes); but rather supports change in a manner congruent with the person’s own values and concerns.”
I will be discussing MI as a theory and as a very practical approach to “getting through” to teens and young adults—MI is an evidence-based approach that really does work.
If you have any questions, just let me know.
